Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
Friday, Nov. 2
UMMC chief medical officer Dr. Michael Henderson's office is sponsoring an event, "Sharing Improvements in Health Care," which will include presentations by multidisciplinary speakers from across the Medical Center who will highlight institutional performance improvement efforts, from 9:30 a.m.-noon on Friday, Nov. 2, in room CW 106 of the Classroom Wing.
The event, which will include oral and poster presentations, will promote collaboration and partnerships to improve quality outcomes, enhance patient safety and improve patient experience.

Dr. Lais F. Berro, postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, will give the Psychiatry Grand Rounds presentation, "The Crack of Dawn: Understanding the Relationship between Drug Abuse and Sleep,” at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, in room CW 308 of the Classroom Wing.

Dr. Gill Diamond, professor of oral biology at the University of Florida, Gainesville, will give the Microbiology and Immunology Seminar, "Antimicrobial Peptides in the Mucosal Epithelium: Roles in Host Defense and Therapeutics," at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, in room 4A.

Dr. Robert H. Eckel, Charles A. Boettcher Endowed Chair in Atherosclerosis; professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes; and interim vice chancellor for research at the Anschutz Medical Center, University of Colorado, Denver, at Aurora, will give the Grand Rounds presentation, “Lipoprotein Lipase: An Evolving Story on How Tissue Specific Regulation of the Enzyme Relates to Metabolism and Beyond,” at noon on Thursday, Nov. 8 in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.
The presentation is sponsored by the Mississippi Center for Obesity Research, the Mississippi Center for Clinical and Translational Research and the Cardiorenal and Metabolic Diseases Research Center.
